This release presents the complete original album The Jimmy Knepper - Pepper Adams Quintet (Metrojazz EI004), which marked the two musician’ first recorded collaboration, and one of the very few they made in a quintet format. They are backed here by a splendid rhythm section including Wynton Kelly on paino, Doug Watkins on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. A complete session featuring almost the exact same group, with alto saxophonist Sonny Redd replacing Knepper, has been included as a bonus.
