This CD contains the complete original Charles Mingus LP Oh Yeah (Atlantic SD-1377), an amazing sextet session which marks the only studio collaboration between the great leader (who only plays piano and sings here) and the magnificent Rahsaan Roland Kirk. All other preserved songs from the date, as well as a long alternate version of “Ecclusiastics” (featuring nearly the same personnel and recorded live at Birdland the previous month) have been added here to round out the set. Oh Yeah was the first album ever on which Mingus played just the piano from beginning to end.
