This release contains two complete original Henry Mancini jazz LPs: Combo! (RCA Victor LSP2258) and The Blues and the Beat (RCA Victor LSP2147). Both albums present very similar formations arranged and conducted by Mancini and including Ted Nash and Ronnie Lang on saxes, Pete Candoli on trumpet, Dick Nash on trombone, Larry Bunker on vibes, and John Williams on piano. However, while The Blues and the Beat showcases a big band, Combo! presents a more reduced group that also features such important stars as Art Pepper on alto sax & clarinet, and Shelly Manne on drums.
