This release presents the complete original LP The Lester Young-Buddy Rich Trio (Verve MGV-8164). It consists of an amazing trio set by the two title artists plus the incomparable Nat “King” Cole on the piano (he was signed to another record label at the time, so he appeared on the LP under the pseudonym of “Aye Guy”). The only existing alternate take produced at the session has been added as a bonus, as well as two further sessions in their entirety which complete Young's recordings with Nat King Cole (the AFRS Jubilee show also features Buddy Rich on drums). To round out the set, two Jazz at the Philharmonic performances from the same period featuring both Young and Rich plus a plethora of great stars.
