"The Atomic Mr. Basie" (Roulette R52003, originally titled "Basie", but also known as "E=MC2") is one of Count Basie’s most famous, and most critically acclaimed albums. The success of the 1957 LP allowed the bandleader to regain the popularity and financial prosperity that had eluded him during previous years. The Atomic Mr. Basie proved so successful that Neal Hefti, who arranged and composed all of the album’s tunes, was summoned to prepare a second LP: "Basie Plays Hefti" (Roulette SR-52011), which has been added here as a bonus in its entirety.
