This release presents Vanoni’s homonymous debut album in its entirety. It was issued in December 1961 by the Milano based Ricordi label, and all of its songs had been previously released as singles. The album includes some of the most representative songs from the early stage of Vanoni’s career. The tracks on Side A are about “underworld” affairs and a life of crime. As previously mentioned, Vanoni was known at the time as the underworld singer because the songs she began performing at the start of her career were inspired by some ancient dialect ballads, which narrated stories of crime. On the other hand, Side B contains romantic love songs. Without a doubt, this fascinating collection offers the perfect way to appreciate how the Italian singer developed her talents from a theatrical artist to a ballad stylist.

ORNELLA VANONI, vocals on all tracks, with:

Orchestras conducted by Fiorenzo Carpi (A1-A6),
Gianfranco Reverberi (B1, B3-B5 & B7), Bruno Canfora (B2 & B6), and Ennio Morricone (A7).
Recorded at Ricordi Studios, Milan, Italy, between 1958 and 1962.
