This CD presents a complete never before heard live performance by the Charles Mingus Sextet recorded in Rotterdam in 1970, during the European tour which followed Mingus’ long recording hiatus from 1965 to 1970. To this amazing concert, the only existing collaboration between Mingus and Duke Ellington apart from their album Money Jungle. Recorded during Mingus’ hiatus, this one of a kind version of Mingus’ “The Clown” was supposed to feature Mingus (who was among the audience) conducting the Ellington band. However, at the last minute he decided not to get on stage, so Ellington conducts his band and acts as the narrator!
