THE CONCERT JAZZ BAND AT NEWPORT 1960
Reference: DIS-124984
LIMITED EDITION COLLECTOR'S ITEM
This release presents a complete rarely heard live performance by the extraordinary Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band. Taped with excellent sound quality at the July 1960 Newport Jazz Festival while the band was recording their first studio sessions, it features such important names as Bob Brookmayer, Conte Candoli, Gene Quill, Mel Lewis, and of course Mulligan himself. As a bonus, the only surviving song from a Berlin concert by the band that took place the following November and a sextet number recorded in Newport a few years later. The 1960 Newport concert is the ideal complement to the CD box set of the Concert Jazz Band issued by Mosaic, which doesn't include the performance among its contents.
