The present LP comprises material from two 1960 sessions. One song, “West Coast Blues”, features Harold Land (who was the nominal leader of the date) and trumpeter Joe Gordon, plus the rhythm section. On all other tracks, the format is a quintet with James Clay on flute and tenor sax, and Montgomery as the leader, plus the Cannonball Adderley Quintet rhythm section of that period: Victor Feldman on piano (who had replaced Bobby Timmons after a short stint by Barry Harris), Sam Jones on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. “‘Movin’ is the key word here”, wrote Down Beat reviewer John A. Tynan about this music.
