A killer collection of contemporary underground sounds from Brazil – not the kind of bigger pop that usually filters over here from the world music market – but instead a range of really well-chosen tracks that beautifully illustrate a new wave of creativity in the city of Sao Paulo!

Despite the violence of the cover image, the music is mostly very intimate and personal – well-crafted songs that draw on earlier legacies of Brazilian music – with strands of samba, bossa, forro, and more – plus a good dose of the more experimental recent generation – all mixed together with a great deal of care, and a sense of songwriting that transcends the boundaries of language!

Some of these cuts feel as if they could be from rare indie sides from the 70s, others bear a much more contemporary spirit – and together, they go a long way towards changing anyone's idea of what might be going on in 21st Century Sao Paulo.
