A decade on from the last time it appeared on these pages, Sonny Sharrock's classic jazz long player Black Woman is back in reissue form once more. Sharrock died in 1994 aged just 53 after a fateful heart attack, just at the time the he signed a major label deal with RCA. He was a unique artist with plenty of avant-garde albums in his oeuvre by then and Black Woman is one of them - a true statement of guitar skronk majesty which was the first Sonny recorded as leader. His own explosive guitar features heavily next to percussion mastery from Milford Graves and some mad ad libs from Sonny's then-wife Linda Sharrock.
