The debut album of soul legends "Gladys Knight & The Pips", recorded in 1965, one year before their signing to Motown. This extremely rare original album from 1965 shows "Gladys Knight & The Pips" at their best, just one year before they signed to the mighty Motown Records. The recordings they made for Larry Maxwell's Maxx label were among the least successful - in terms of sales - with only one Top 10 R&B hit over a two-year period.

But: they were the important first steps in the second phase of their career, which led them to Motown and confirmed them as international superstars. Nearly sixty years later, these wonderful recordings form an amazing collection of classic soul music that show Gladys, The Pips and world-class arranger Van McCoy working at the peak of their musicality. Despite disappointing sales in 1965, time has proven these songs to be among the very best, in a career that has produced some of the greatest soul music ever recorded.
