The new compilation on Sdban Records focuses on the Netherlands: Hip Holland Hip: Modern Jazz in the Netherlands 1950 - 1970.

Immerse yourself in the Dutch jazz scene of the 1950s and 1960s with a selection of classic and rare hardbop and cool jazz tracks by artists such as Herman Schoonderwalt, the Diamond Five, Wessel Ilcken and Tony Vos. Holland never sounded so hip!

Jazz is garbage and a caricature of the modern orchestra, it's trash arranged by adolescent musicians for the sake of communal entertainment. Despite the attempts of the Dutch cultural establishment to exclude jazz - as this quote from the October 1926 issue of the music magazine De Muziek shows - the Netherlands was among the first players of the new musical style when it crossed over to the old continent.
