Translating as ‘Musical Encyclopedia’, 1984’s ‘Ongaku Zukan’ is the fourth solo album from the great composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. Coming off the back of his tremendous boost in reputation that his score for ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence’ afforded him, this smorgasbord of ambient-influenced space age pop is a delight, recorded with his erstwhile Yellow Magic Orchestra bandmates Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi.
