Master percussionist Mark Nauseef is attentive to how pitch works and how rhythm works, he feels the big pulse and how everything is divided in space and time. On Mongrels he is joined by Tony Buck on various guitars. A formidable collection of bells and gongs from Bali, Java, Korea, Japan, India, China and Tibet, where these instruments are often used to stun the mind and capture the awareness in meditation. Here they generate the matrix in which strata of guitars, including electric baritones, steel string, slide, prepared guitars, bass and monochords create an orchestra rich in overtones, microtonal movement, harmonics and glow.
