A new vinyl series featuring live recordings of legendary artists from recent decades who have performed at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival. The North Sea Jazz Concert Series will include officially licensed releases, standard on white 180-gram vinyl in a heavy paper sleeve printed with cardboard.
The records will feature predominantly black and white artwork by Hans Pol in his signature style for the festival, inspired by covers of classic jazz releases from the Blue Note label. The liner notes are written by journalist and jazz expert Jeroen de Valk. For the first release in this series, one of the most famous jazz singers of all time, Ella Fitzgerald, is chosen.
On Friday, July 13, 1979, she gave an exhilarating and unforgettable concert at the festival, which was then still held in The Hague. The "First Lady of Song" worked her way with verve through standards such as "There Will Never Be Another You," "Satin Doll," "Round Midnight" and "Mr. Paganini." Her accompanists that evening were Paul Smith, Keter Betts and Mickey Roker ; a trio lineup with the power of a big band.
