This may be a budget LP but the music is better than expected. Tenor-saxophonist Zoot Sims performs in a sparse but mighty quartet with guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Buddy Rich. Most of the tunes are swing standards such as "Honeysuckle Rose," "Indiana" and "Memories of You" although there is also a brief "Send in the Clowns," and a Sims original, "Nirvana." The biggest surprise of the typically swinging set (recorded live in 1974 and released by the Italian label Europa) is that both Zoot Sims and Buddy Rich sing on "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You? - SCOTT YANOW
