In 1996, pianist/composer Geri Allen was awarded the prestigious Jazzpar Prize. She flew to Denmark to pick up the award and performed at a few concerts that were recorded. This CD showcases her at her best. Allen performs two originals in a trio with bassist Palle Danielsson and drummer Lenny White. Veteran trumpeter Johnny Coles contributes a faltering but heartfelt statement to "Old Folks" and is part of an international nonet on the two remaining pieces. Throughout the date, Geri Allen shows why she is one of post-bop's top stars. Highly recommended.
