Data sheet
If saxophonist Tubby Hayes, who died early, had not worked primarily in Great Britain in the 1960s, where he is now considered an idol in jazz circles, his name would certainly be better known worldwide. The Brit elicited rousing modern jazz and elegant ballads from his saxophone and was always on a par with his American jazz colleagues. After Decca Records released a complete CD box set by the artist five years ago, the LP "Splonge! An Introduction To Tubby Hayes" is now a compilation of the best and most important Tubby Hayes tracks put together by filmmaker and author Mark Baxter.
