It's an interesting story as to how this album came about: Following a Milano gig by New Yorker Elliott Sharp's Terraplane, Italian vocalist Boris Savoldelli handed the guitarist a copy of his new solo album, "Insanology" (reissued in December of 2011). Sharp was blown away, and later agreed to a guest appearance during Boris' September 2008 performance at The Stone (John Zorn's Lower East Side NYC venue for experimental sounds). The day before the show, the pair entered Sharp's Studio zOaR and set a course for extended improvisations and experimentations. The result of these efforts, Protoplasmic, is a session of communicative depth, filled with moments of sheer creative genius.
Clearly Boris' most dark and abstract work to date, the album showcases the incredible command and understanding that both musicians possess of their instruments and effects -- and their ability to create and communicate spontaneously. Nothing is out of bounds, and they boldly follow, with abandon, wherever the music carries them.SpacerThis highly-adventurous outing reveals a different facet of the brilliant Boris Savoldelli, showcases the intriguing style and imagination of Elliott Sharp, and is experimental music at its finest and most explorator.
