4 STARS ALL MUSIC GUIDE
This edition presents the George Shearing trio’s complete long unavailable LP Jazz Moments (Capitol Records ST 1827), which marked the first and only album the pianist recorded with the rhythm section of Israel Crosby on bass and Vernel Fournier on drums.
Both musicians had been part of the celebrated Ahmad Jamal Trio and joined Shearing in 1962. However, the group wouldn’t record again due to Crosby’s untimely death of a heart attack on August 11, 1962 at the age of 43. All five instrumental sides by Shearing’s Quintet from a otherwise vocal album shared with singer Nancy Wilson, as well a complete 1961 quintet session and two rare Sharing items originally issued on a Capitol single (appearing here on CD for the first time ever) have been added as a bonus.
