This edition presents all existing collaborative recordings made by Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Rollins. This consists of the music produced for two albums, both of which feature a third star horn, alto saxophonist Sonny Stitt. The albums are Dizzy Gillespie Duets (Verve MGV8260), on which Rollins and Stitt alternate playing duets with Gillespie, and Sonny Side Up (Verve MGV8262), on which both saxophonists play together with Diz. Both albums were recorded in 1957 within the same week. a third complete album pairing Gillespie and Stitt plus members of the Modern Jazz Quartet, titled The Modern Jazz Sextet (Verve MGN-1076), has been added here as a bonus.
