This release presents the complete original LP Nigeria (Blue Note LT-1032), featuring the great Grant Green in a quartet setting backed by Sonny Clark on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on June 6, 1935 (although all the records released during his lifetime state that he was born on June 6, 1931; he died on January 31, 1979), Grant Green was one of the most remarkable guitar players in jazz history. He went to Chicago in 1959, following the advice of tenor sax player Jimmy Forrest, with whom Grant would make his very first recordings. He became a Blue Note artist in 1960 and would remain with the label until the early 1970s.
