This collection presents the incomparable Nina Simone at her best in three different musical contexts. The first CD showcases her (both singing and playing piano) backed by Jimmy Bond on bass, and Albert “Tootie” Heath on drums. The second CD finds Nina accompanied by big bands conducted by Bob Mersey and Ralph Burns. Finally, CD3 includes some of Simone’s best concert performances, taped at the Village Gate and at the Newport Jazz Festival, backed on all of them by her regular group of the early 1960s. Memorable music to treasure and to listen to time and again!
