Quoted by the New York City Jazz Record as ”one of the most adventurous bassists on the scene” double bassist Pascal Niggenkemper takes us with his new album ‘Talking Trash’ into wondrous musical territories as reports and images of floating garbage in the ocean, named “the Great Pacific Garbage Patch” or “le 7ème continent” called his attention and encouraged him to put this absurd reality into music.
In this new opus, two clarinetists, Joris Rühl and Joachim Badenhorst and two pianists applying preparations, Eve Risser and Philip Zoubek, join Niggenkemper and flutist Julián Elvira in an intriguing “different twins” concept. The sextet is presented by the composer as “two identical instrumented duos or three identical duos, with the exception of the double bass, which has the sub-contrabass flute as its pendant.”.
Exploring unusual timbral nuances and introducing their personal sonic language the ensemble creates poetic, deep and hypnotic musical landscapes.
