This release presents the complete Sam “The Man” Taylor LP "Plays The Bad and the Beautiful" (Moodsville MVLP-24), which appears here on CD for the first time ever. The album features Taylor as the sole horn fronting a quintet.
The material consists of the celebrated David Raksin theme song from the 1952 movie by the same title, plus seven other songs related to female lead characters from a selection of famous films.
As a bonus, the complete album "Jazz for Commuters & Salute to the Saxes" (MGM Stereo E1008), which showcases Taylor surrounded by various jazz stars, such as Budd Johnson (who also wrote all of the arrangements), Georgie Auld, Charlie Shavers, Thad Jones, and Hank Jones.
