This essential CD presents Lightnin’ Slim’s fi nest album, Rooster Blues. It was originally released in 1960 by the legendary Excello label. The original LP edition is a very coveted item among collectors, for which substantial amounts of money are paid. With the great Lazy Lester or label mate Slim Harpo on harmonica for the majority of the tracks here, the stripped-down approach to Lightnin’ Slim’s brand of blues casts these sides in a decidedly front-porch ambience.

In addition to the original masterpiece, this remastered collector’s edition also contains 12 bonus tracks, consisting of hard-to-fi nd sides released by Excello during the same period. This set offers listeners the opportunity to hear many of the finest tunes by one of the blues genre’s most important yet unsung heroes.
