"Jazz Guitar" was Jim Hall’s debut album as a leader. The first LP edition contained ten tunes, including “This Is Always” but omitting “Too Close for Comfort”. However, later releases would differ considerably from the original issue. The second LP edition had only nine tunes (“This Is Always” was omitted), and presented edited versions of many tracks (mainly editing out piano or bass solos), and what is worse, transformed the trio into a quartet, dubbing a drums track by Larry Bunker over the original trio music.
This edition compiles, for the first time ever on vinyl, all existing music from the sessions, respecting the songs’ original length and without any overdub. Due to the time limits of the LP format, the orderof the tunes had to be slightly changed with respect to the first LP issue, in order to make room for the eleventh tune from the session, “Too Close for Comfort”. This is the first time the complete session appears on a single LP.
