This LP features six Louis Armstrong NYC "live" performances recorded in 1947. They're the first three tracks on each album side and the balance are from studio sessions. On "Rockin' Chair," Satchmo keeps calling co-vocalist Jack Teagarden 'Fatha.' On "Back O' Town Blues," an audience member yelps and Louis tells him, "Shut up, boy!" Charlie Shavers' muted trumpet backs his vocal on "Long Long Journey." Kid Ory contributes a fabulously expressive muted hot trombone solo on "Mahogany Hall Stomp," a track that allows each player a solo. Here, Armstrong sustains a note for nearly six measures!
