The complementing talents of Chet Baker (1929-1988) both as a trumpet player and as a singer are now well known. In his liner notes to the original Chet Baker Sings 10-inch album, Will MacFarland noted the similarity between Chet and Louis Armstrong (with regards to their equal importance as both vocalists and instrumentalists), which still seems a reasonable comparison many years later.
Both Baker’s trumpet and voice seem to be extensions of the same musical personality, and once you’ve become familiar with each one, you expect to hear them both. Initially issued as a 10- inch Long Play containing eight songs, the success of this album soon led to it being reissued on a 12-inch LP adding the results of later sessions. Two further vocal dates have been included here as a bonus.
