Richard Maltby worked as an arranger for Paul Whiteman in the late 1930s before working for Benny Goodman - and writing his hit, "Six Flats Unfurnished." He formed his own band in the 1950s, and recorded several LPs, including these two he did for Columbia. During this time, he recorded for many different labels, and directed backings for Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan, Johnnie Ray, Vic Damone and Ethel Merman. Maltby later became Lawrence Welk's arranger and conductor. - Oldies.com
