His tenor is husky and liting in the low register, giving way to the occasional bluesy exultation up high...As on A4, the quartet digs into the stuffing of cool, with an easy chemistry happening between the band as they tackle nine beautiful, classic melodies. James Moody is one of the 20th century´s most lauded jazz artists, gathering Grammy nominations, poll-topping honors ( for sax and flute) and NE A´s Jazz Master Award. But Moody, now 85, did not stop at the 20th century, as his most recent recordings and performances prove. His latest release, Moody 4B, is a monster quartet outing with pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Todd Coleman and drummer Lewis Nash.
