An underrated vocalist blessed with incredible power and clarity, Lloyd Price is a pioneer who transformed blues singing, and expanded rhythm & blues with a swing-band orchestration into rock & roll. Not entirely content with being a 1950s R&B star on the strength of his immortal New Orleans classic “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” Price (also known as “Mr. Personality”) yearned for massive pop acceptance.

This collector’s edition presents one of Price’s finest and most underrated albums: "Cookin’ with Lloyd Price", originally issued by ABC-Paramount in 1961. Long unavailable, the LP was recorded in pristine stereo sound. It was produced and conducted by Sid Feller, who gave Price’s interpretations full-bodied support with big-band beat and some Latin flavor in the varied arrangements. In addition to the original long play, this remastered collector’s CD also includes 15 bonus tracks, consisting of hard-to-find sides. Some of these recordings released during the same period while others date back to the mid-‘50s.

LLOYD PRICE, lead vocals, plus:

His Great Orchestra: probably featuring Ernest McClean, Bill Jones (guitar), Clarence Johnson (bass),
William Brown (piano), Claude Green, Charles McClendon, Eddie Saunders (tenor saxophone),
Joseph Harris (alto saxophone), and Ted Curson (trumpet), among others.

Recorded 1960-1961.
