This quintessential release presents two of Sister Rosetta’s finest LPs, which were cut during the zenith of her abilities: the masterpiece Gospel Train (1957), and one of her most difficult to find albums, Sister on Tour (1961). Both records contain some of Tharpe’s best-­known hits, such as “Up Above My Head,” “Jericho,” and “Joy in this Land,” among others. Long unavailable on CD, these sensational albums have finally been remastered and packaged together in this special collector’s edition, which also includes 6 bonus tracks from the same period. There’s no better proof of Sister Rosetta’s genius than these powerful and passionate.
