This release presents the complete original album Dexter Blows Hot and Cool (Dootone DTL207). Recorded in 1955, it features Gordon in a quartet and quintet format, and was one of the first long-play albums by Gordon (whose previous recordings had been issued predominantly on 78 rpm discs). This was the saxophonist's only collaboration with pianist Carl Perkins. As a bonus, added most of Gordon's previous session, recorded in a quartet format with Kenny Drew on piano.

PERSONNEL:

DEXTER GORDON, tenor sax
CARL PERKINS, piano
LEROY VINNEGAR, bass
CHUCK THOMPSON, drums
JIMMY ROBINSON, trumpet (on 1, 3 & 6 only)

Hollywood, California, November 11-12, 1955.

[10-14] BONUS TRACKS: Dexter Gordon (ts), Kenny Drew (p), Leroy Vinnegar (b),
Lawrence Marable (d). Hollywood, California, September 18, 1955.

Note: The bonus session was originally issued as Daddy Plays the Horn (Bethlehem BCP36). “Confirmation”, from that session, couldn't be included here due to limited disc space.
