This quintessential LP edition presents Mary Wells’ magnificent second album for Motown, The One Who Really Loves You (1962), which has been long unavailable on vinyl. It is an essential LP for anyone who likes the sound of early ‘60s pop-soul, containing the smash hit “The One Who Really Loves You”, as well as “Drifting Love”, one of her few original compositions she recorded for Motown.

In addition to the original album, this WaxTime collector’s item contains 4 bonus tracks from the same period: “Old Love”, “Operator”, “You Lost the Sweetest Boy”, and the soul jewel “Two Lovers”, which was the third consecutive hit to be both written and produced by Smokey Robinson.

The song’s cleverly devised lyrics at first appear to be about a girl singing to one lover who is “sweet and kind” and another one who treats her badly and makes her sad; eventually, the girl reveals that the two lovers are actually the same person. All of these songs are sensational, full of puns and unexpected twists, and set to irresistible melody lines.
