This quintessential edition includes Wilson’s sensational fourth studio album, Jackie Sings the Blues, originally released by the Brunswick label in 1960, and long unavailable on vinyl. Featuring all original compositions, this LP was produced/arranged by Dick Jacobs and contains some of Wilson’s greatest studio recordings from the beginning of his career. Highlights include such outstanding bluesy recordings as “Please Tell Me Why”, “She Done Me Wrong,” “Doggin’ Around”…and the up-beat “New Girl in Town.” The emotional effect of Wilson’s voice makes these legitimate blues performances, as exemplified by the rocking and lively “Come on and Love Me Baby,” the vigorous “Comin’ to Your House,” and “Please Stick Around.” All of those tracks are accompanied by female background vocals in a gospel manner. And even though the tune “Sazzle Dazzle” isn’t a blues classic (or even a blues tune for that matter) doesn’t make it one iota less thrilling.
In addition to the original masterpiece, this WaxTime collector’s item contains 2 bonus tracks from the same period: the joyful “One Kiss,” and the passionate “You Cried.
