Alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson was born in Badin, North Carolina, on November 1, 1926 (he is 92 at this writing). Best known for his soulful, bluesy approach to playing the alto saxophone, in his formative years he was, as many of the bebop era were, heavily influenced by Charlie Parker. This release presents Donaldson’s complete original LP Blues Walk, presenting the saxophonist as the only horn in a quintet that also features Ray Barretto on congas. Two songs featuring nearly the same personnel originally issued in 1961 as a 45rpm single have been added as a bonus.
