This release contains the best tunes ever recorded by the great John Coltrane (1926-1967). The first CD is devoted to the saxophonist’s ballad playing, while the second focuses on blues and faster hard bop anthems, and the third and final CD puts together some of Trane’s most exciting collaborations with other great jazz stars, such as Thelonious Monk, Milt Jackson, Miles Davis, Cecil Taylor, Cannonball Adderley, and Duke Ellington. Among the many highlights are the classic readings of “My Favorite Things,” “Giant Steps,” and the perennial “Naima.”
