Original Down Beat review: Rushing Lullabies
“This is an LP that makes me wish there was a higher rating than five stars in Down Beat’s reviewing structure. Every aspiring jazz musician, every class in jazz history (up the river and all), and every school of jazz from Lenox to Berklee, should make this LP a standard reference text. Ownership of it an continued listening to it should predate any discussion of the verb ‘to swing’. One has to be unemotional indeed to hear this record and not feel better. (Ralph J. Gleason)

Original Down Beat review:° Brubeck & Rushing°

“The seemingly unlikely combination of Brubeck and Rushing has worked to the advantage of the singer, the quartet, and, ultimately, the listener. Rushing has the advantage of a marvellously rhythmic cushion in the accompaniment of Brubeck, Wright, and Morello. The entire meeting is very relaxed and refreshing.” (John S. Wilson)
