Johnny Cash was the first artist to fuse the sounds of country, gospel, rockabilly and storytelling with a string of unforgettable hits and stark lyrics with an unabashed attitude. He wrote moving songs of love and loss, sung in a voice which is not only unique in the field of country & western, but in all of popular music. This quintessential release features two of Johnny Cash’s finest albums, which were originally released on the Columbia label in 1960: Ride This Train, and Now, There Was a Song! . Despite its title, Ride This Train is not a collection of songs about trains. It is a provocative tour of the country through narration and song. It also marks Johnny Cash’s first Americana concept album. Now, There Was a Song! is a tribute LP to other famous country stars. Cash selected compositions made famous by other great singers (such as Hank Williams, Hank Thompson, George Jones and Ernest Tubb), while giving the songs his own distinctive interpretations. Both sensational albums have been re-mastered and packaged together in this very special collector’s edition, which also includes 7 bonus tracks from the same period.
