This album is about joy and invention: six musicians at the start of a new year taking advantage of a broadcast slot to express their individuality, their creativity and freedom. The fact that music of this quality and challenge was broadcast on Radio One reminds us that broadcast standards have deteriorated alarmingly over the last fifty years.

Ray Russell is a musician of enormous skill, with an amazing track record and yet has not really been granted the exalted recognition that he deserves. Maybe, it is because he has not been single minded and has had various roles in R&B, cool jazz, jazz-rock/rock-jazz fusion, and absolute freedom.
