Some of the greatest film scores were composed by Bernard Herrmann (1911-1975), and leader Carla Marciano uses her sopranino and alto saxes to team up with Alessandro La Corte/p-key, Aldo Vigorito/b and Gaetano Fasano/dr to deliver some rich interpretations of some of his most exciting themes.

Most of the material chosen comes from the darker side of the silver screen, with a pair of tunes from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” including an urgent and yet lyrical “Prelude” to an eerie “Scene D’Amour” that features some noirish piano, sax and bass soloing going. Marciano floats on the harrowing “Theme From ‘Taxi Driver’” with the team sounding like a hint of John Coltrane’s “ Countdown” on “Theme From ‘Psycho’”. The straight sax swirls over La Corte’s Bill Evansy chords on the bleak “Them from ‘Twisted Nerve” and the team is more modal with La Corte’s Tyner strides on “Theme From ‘Marnie’
