Pianist Art Hirahara is one of our favorite contemporary players on his instrument of late – a musician with a bold sense of tone and color, a very fresh approach to structure, and a great ear for a tune – which means this record is filled with originals by Art, and not the more familiar well-worn classics! Hirahara's work here is a great reminder that a jazz musician doesn't need to go outside to make their voice known – as Art's very original right from the very first note – given superb accompaniment from Boris Kozlov on bass, and Rudy Royston on drums – each of whom contribute a song to the date too.
