This release presents Sonny Rollins’ complete LP "Rollins Plays for Bird" (Prestige LP 7095), on which the saxophonist pays homage to the great Charlie Parker, who had died shortly before on March 12, 1955, at the age of 34. The album, which also features Bird’s frequent collaborators Kenny Dorham and Max Roach, consists of a medley of songs either composed or recorded by Parker, plus two tunes not related to him in any way. “The House I Live in”, a song that completes the session but was not included on the original LP, has been added here as a bonus, as well as Sonny Rollins’ only recording session with Bird – a 1953 quintet set led by Miles Davis that was also recorded for Prestige.
