Cuban-born percussionist Cándido de Guerra Camero, aldo known simple as Candido (born April 22, 1921, he is 93 at this writing) backed numerous jazz acts since the 1950s. One of the first musician to use the congas in jazz music, along with Diego Iborra and Chano Pozo, Candido played with Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Taylor, Stan Keaton, and Charlie Parker, among many others. This release presents Candido’s first four albums as a leader: Latin Fire (ABCParamount ABC286), In Indigo (ABC-Paramount ABC236), The Volcanic (ABC-Paramount ABC180), and Featuring Al Cohn (ABC-Paramount ABC125).
