Billie Holiday was probably the most lyrical and expressive female vocalist in jazz history. This CD compiles her finest ballad interpretations, which are all studio recordings with excellent sound quality. Including a selection of her greatest hits, such as the perennial classics “I Loves You Porgy” (in which she is backed by a trio), “I Thought About You” (her only studio duet), the unforgettable “Lady Sings the Blues”, her own composition “God Bless the Child”, and the shocking “Strange Fruit”, which she used to conclude her stage performances. She is backed by some of the biggest names in jazz, like Ben Webster, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Benny Carter and Oscar Peterson, among others.
