2 COMPLETE ALBUMS ON 2-CD SET
In 1957, Sonny Rollins discovered the enormous force his sax could achieve while playing in a piano-less trio format, backed just by bass and drums. This 2-CD set compiles, for the first time ever on a single collection, all of his studio trio recordings from the earliest ones up to 1962.
Presented here are the complete contents (plus all known alternate takes) from the classic albums "Way Out West" (Contemporary C-3530), and "Freedom Suite" / "Shadow Waltz" (Riverside RLP-12-258), plus every other studio trio session or
individual track he taped during that period. Backing the saxophonist are such stars as bassists Ray Brown, Oscar Pettiford, and Paul Chambers, and drummers such as Shelly Manne, Max Roach, and Roy Haynes.
