"Stay With Me" (Verve MGV-8302) derives from a 1955 session that only produced the seven songs on the album, without any additional tunes or Nalternative takes. The original pianist scheduled for the date was Carl Drinkard, but he argued with the singer and with bassist Leonard Gaskin at the last minute, and was fired. Drummer Jo Jones was present at the date (although he wasn’t playing, the drummer on all performances is CozyCole), and he urgently called Billy Taylor as a replacement. Two complete 1952 small group studio sessions also recorded by Billie for Norman Granz have been added here as a bonus.
