Jan Garbarek

The release date is rapidly nearing for "Officium Novum", the eagerly awaited third album by Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble. The new release, while characteristically wide ranging in inspirational sources, has an "Orient/Occident" bias, with a special focus on music of Armenia and the compositions and arrangements of Komitas. The Hilliards studied Komitas’s pieces, which draw upon both medieval sacred music and the bardic tradition of the Caucasus in the course of their visits to Armenia, and the modes of the music encourage some of Garbarek’s most impassioned and lyrical playing.
